L'Union Fait LaForce

Changing Haiti one city at a time

Giving History

Below are high level summaries of each year total amount we distributed in scholarships.  L'Union Fait LaForce provides annual scholarships in the cities we serve.  Students in the program continue to receive the scholarship annually depending on their grades.  We also partner with two local schools to identify high performing students from poor families to be awarded the scholarship.  As students graduated from the program (as they complete their high school), we relied on this partnership to bring about four new students each year.

- For the 2015-2016 school year, we distributed more than $141,900 dollars (HTD) in scholarships to 67 students in the three cities we currently serve.  We increased our scholarship this year to support 8 university students as part of a pilot program.  We are also revising our strategy in identifying and awarded scholarships to new students in a more competitive process starting next year; more to come on this.

- For the 2014-2015 school year, we distributed more than $122,400 dollars (HTD) in scholarships to 63 students in the three cities we currently serve.  Cost increased this year even though we decreased the number of scholarship primarily because we now have more students in high school than middle school.  We also have few students in university.

- For the 2013-2014 school year, we distributed more than $117,500 dollars (HTD) in scholarships to 83 students in the three cities we currently serve.

- For the 2012-2013 school year, we distributed more than $108,900 dollars (HTD) in scholarships to 82 students in the three cities we currently serve.  We indefinitely suspend our program in the St-Marc area this year due to inability to maintain a director there.  We also suspend stipend to the teachers indefinitely until further notice.

- For the 2011-2012 school year, we distributed more than  $111,000 dollars (HTD) (increased by more than 112% compare to last year) in scholarship to 91 students (increase by 80% compare to last year) in the 4 cities we served.  We decided to temporarily increase scholarship to further assist some of the earth-quarke victims.  We plan to cut back to bring our ananual scholarships closer to our goal of 25 within the next few years.  We are also piloting a stipend program for teachers, giving $100 (USD) a month each to 14 teachers.

- For 2010-2011 school year, we distributed more than $52,000 dollars (HTD) in scholarship to 50 students in the 4 cities we served.  We added Saint-Marc as a pilot city.  Primary challenge with Saint-Marc will be finding a director we will be able to trust and build a solid relationship with.

- For the 2009-2010 school year, we distributed more than $35,500 dollars (HTD) in scholarship to 36 students in the 3 cities we served.

- For the 2008-2009 school year, we distributed more than $34,500 dollars (HTD) in scholarship to 36 students in the 3 cities we served.

- For the 2007-2008 school year, we distributed more than $16,500 dollars (HTD) in scholarship to 27 students in the 3 cities we served.

- For the 2006-2007 school year, distributed more than $16,000 dollars (HTD) in scholarship to 27 students in the 3 cities we served.

P.S. L'Union Fait LaForce is fully funded by the Theork family.  The foundation does not have any paid staffs.  All staffs volunteer their time to the foundation.  Also, dollar amount stated above does not include transfer fees.  The Theork family resides in the US and transfer scholarship money directly to our program managers/directors to pay the school fees.
